Pancake breakfasts are a time honoured tradition of the Calgary Stampede for over 100 years. The Calgary Stampede Caravan Committee provides free breakfasts, entertainment and western hospitality all over Calgary in July each year.
The Stampede Caravan Committee is a team of volunteers that puts on the famous Calgary Stampede breakfasts. These breakfasts have been part of the Calgary tradition for more than 85 years. We get out early in the morning, rain or shine, to provide a Calgary welcome and a western pancake breakfast and entertainment. The best part, it’s free of charge to those who attend!
In 1923 ‘Wildhorse’ Jack Morton was one of the drivers in the first ever races.
He was also the one who kicked off the tradition of pancake breakfasts, setting up his wagon downtown on Stephen Avenue and serving breakfast to guests and he pancake became the quintessential symbol of western hospitality, generosity, and community spirit.
The tradition of the pancake breakfast is carried on today by the Stampede Caravan. Since 1976, these enthusiastic volunteers have been providing a hearty meal and good old-fashioned western entertainment for special events around the world.
